PC Liquidators acutally has Sun IPCs and Sparc Classics listed on their site (i dunno if I can get em in the store, probably not), less than $20 a piece and I could probably cannibalize one for the floppy drive - I don't even know if I can boot off of my external SCSI CD-R yet. dreamland, the Sparc Classic, is now running with [OpenBSD] (yay) which is what it came with. After much hacking last night, I got the internal ethernet and the sbus hme2.1 10/100 card working, one on DHCP with the cable modem and the other with a private address. What's NOT cool is this:

OpenBSD 3.1, the most current release, doesn't recognize the sbus->pcmcia adapter card that's housing the wireless card. What really sucks is that OpenBSD-current, the current development version, [does!] . And there is no way for me to make a sparc install disc for OpenBSD-current/3.2 . I *could* try doing a network update to 3.2, but I don't know if that will work with the very limited hard disk space on this machine (it's got a 200mb drive). [NetBSD], on the other hand, has support for the "nell" sbus->pcmcia card in version 1.6, which was released this week. Apparently there are no isos of 1.6 available yet, and the most current I can find is 1.5.2, dating back to BEFORE [support for the nell card was in there]. I could try 1.5.2 and update that over the network... Any way I choose to try, it's gonna be a pain! [ 9/15/2002 06:08:16 PM ] [ ]
